Allina Health medical oncologist explains the importance of early cancer detection

[Fox 9 News, May 02, 2024] Catching cancer early is so important. It is one of the key factors in survival. As we continue to see an increase in people being diagnosed in their 30s and 40s, we are also seeing some changes in the recommended age for certain screenings, such as mammograms.

The new recommendations call for women to begin having annual mammograms at age 40. FOX9 news spoke to Joleen Hubbard, MD, a medical oncologist with Allina Health Cancer Institute, on its morning show. Dr. Hubbard shared some valuable information, including the role family history plays when it comes to screenings and the role genetic counseling will play in helping to catch cancer early. She also discussed what you can do to decrease your risk of cancer. Watch the six-minute interview below.
