Stroke survivor’s triathlon comeback highlights Allina Health’s care and the importance of stroke awareness

A Twin Cities woman’s story of going from bedridden by a stroke to completing a triathlon 15 months later is inspiring people of all abilities to get moving. Kate Varns was an active triathlete before her 2024 stroke, and she credits both the mental strength she developed as an athlete and the therapies she received at Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute for her recovery and post-stroke achievements.
