Campus development project update

As part of the larger Abbott Northwestern Hospital Campus Development project, work on the Transportation Hub continues with the relocation of the oxygen tanks on Saturday, Jan. 16.

At 6 a.m., the 28th Street Ramp (Ramp 6) entrance from 28th Street will close. You can enter and exit Ramp 6 from Chicago Avenue.

At 7 a.m., 28th Street will be reduced to a single lane from Chicago Avenue to 10th Avenue.  Traffic police will be at Chicago Avenue and 28th Street to direct traffic. Access to the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Main Campus is on 10th Avenue near the Emergency Department. See the map for details. Please follow the signs and drive with caution when in the construction area. Emergency Vehicles can access the Main Campus through the Wasie Building exit/entry.

There will be intermittent closures during the day on the 28th Street block. Closures could be as long as 45 minutes. When these occur, follow the traffic detour signs to Lake Street over to 10th Avenue. The traffic disruption is scheduled to be completed by 6 p.m.

Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus revitalization project

A 10-year, multi-million dollar project will create a new Central Utility Plant and Transportation Hub/parking ramp to serve Abbott Northwestern Hospital, The Commons and the 10th Avenue facility.

Construction to support the Central Utility Plant is planned for mid-September to mid-December. Entrance and exit roads from 28th Street to the Founders Mall will be impacted for the first four weeks.
