Abbott Northwestern Hospital is the largest private hospital in the Twin Cities and is nationally known for its expert, specialized care. Each year, the hospital cares for more than 200,000 patients and their families from the Twin Cities and upper Midwest.
The Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus has been an important part of its south Minneapolis neighborhood since 1882. Through our campus revitalization project, we are enhancing our hospital to help shape the next era of patient care. Our new surgical building, the Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center, is set to open in fall 2026.

Please note
From Jan. 26 to Feb. 16, 2026, 28th Street will be reduced to one lane near 10th Avenue. Patients and guests can continue to access the main entrances from the left lane of 28th Street. Entrances to the Purple Parking Ramp will be accessible during this work.
Valet parking & drop-off/pick-up
Convenient valet parking is available at the Main Hospital West Building entrance, Courage Kenny entrance (access from 28th Street, left lane) or at the Piper Building entrance (corner of 10th Avenue and 26th Street).
Parking
Park in the Purple Ramp by entering from Chicago Avenue or eastbound East 28th Street. The ramp lobby and skyway entrance is on Level 3. You may walk to the hospital campus or catch a free ride through the skyway via our electric cart service, available 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Campus revitalization project
Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus is undergoing a 10-year campus revitalization project that will strengthen our role as a leader in advanced specialty care and improve patient access to that care.
In addition to the Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center, the revitalization initiative includes a Central Utility Plant that produces efficient energy for the campus, a new parking ramp that supports different types of transportation and a rooftop solar garden that creates clean energy.
