Is a mommy makeover for you?
Jennifer Cameron, MD, MPH
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I have a list of things I want:
- kisses from my kiddos
- handmade cards
- a breast lift
- tummy tuck
- Botox
- Kylie Jenner lips
Ladies, let’s be honest. Having children changes everything. For the best mostly. Marrying my lovely husband and creating our wonderful family has given me the richest, most fulfilling years of my life. But, sometimes I feel like the physical toll on my body is less amazing.
Not to be dramatic, but to quote Charles Dickens: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair...” I would like to maintain my mommy montage and remember these moments as precious. To edit my memories with my rose colored glasses, and delete my battle wounds.
But, let’s be frank: gone are my days of wearing a strappy tank without a bra, a belly burner and working out in heather grey leggings. As I often tell my patients who are moms, ‘you can’t do enough sit ups to get rid of the excess skin on your abdomen, and you can’t do enough push-ups to regain your youthful breasts.’ We shouldn’t feel embarrassed to talk about our changing bodies because self-confidence is a huge part of our personal wellness. If you don’t feel your best your overall health and happiness may suffer.
Mommy makeover is a cute term to describe a combination of cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery which can help a mom feel more youthful again. It doesn’t describe a procedure as much as a constellation of treatments, designed in consultation with your plastic surgeon, to help you feel more beautiful and rejuvenated.
The most common mommy makeover surgeries are breast lifts, breast augmentation and tummy tucks. It may also include facial injectables such as Botox, liposuction, labiaplasty, chemical peels, Cool Sculpting and upper eyelid surgery. Each mommy makeover is unique to the mom, but the ultimate goal is to help you achieve your personal goals, look and feel more rested, and capture some of your pre-pregnancy mojo!
Mommy makeovers aren’t for everyone. But, if you’re intrigued, I encourage you to do some research to see where the journey leads you.
