Pharmacy Internship

The Abbott Northwestern Pharmacy Practice Internship was created to provide a comprehensive learning experience in hospital pharmacy practice. The intern will have the opportunity to work and learn about the distribution system of a hospital pharmacy,  perform non-sterile compounding, complete medication histories and explore different clinical areas.

  • High School or GED required and
  • Completion of one year at an accredited College of Pharmacy preferred or
  • Enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy working towards a Pharmacist degree required or
  • Foreign-trained pharmacist working towards state Pharmacist licensure required
  • Less than 2 Years experience in Pharmacy preferred
  • Pharmacy Intern Certification/Registration upon hire required or
  • Pharmacy Intern Certification/Registration if registered Pharmacy Technician upon hire within 1 Year required
  • Project time depending on department needs and intern interest
  • Designated pharmacy preceptor
  • Career guidance, mentorship and shadowing opportunities
  • Leadership position available as lead intern during the third and fourth years of school
  • Topic discussions with residents, preceptors and department leadership
  • Flexible scheduling that is driven by the interns
  • Training in various areas of the pharmacy department
  • Intern specific duties

Pharmacy interns will train in multiple areas of pharmacy practice including central pharmacy, operations and performing medication histories on newly admitted patients. All intern classes are trained to work the same types of shifts. 

 

Pharmacy interns are expected to work one evening per week and every 4th weekend.
