A chaplain is always available to patients, families and staff at United Hospital.
An integral part of the health care team, chaplains provide an interfaith ministry, nurturing patient values and beliefs and encouraging a more holistic approach to health care. Chaplains are available to patients and their loved ones in times of vulnerability - listening to hopes and fears, reconnecting people to their sources of strength and meaning, and transforming through prayer and ritual.
Staff chaplains are board certified in the Association of Professional Chaplains. A Roman Catholic priest chaplain is also available for ministry to Catholic patients. The chapel is on the fourth floor and is always open for prayer and meditation.
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students minister to patients, families and staff. CPE is an experiential form of theological education in clinical settings. Accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the Allina Health Clinical Pastoral Education Center trains chaplain students on each of the Allina Health metro hospital campuses. For more information email Rev. Shawn Mai, United Hospital CPE program supervisor, or call 651-241-8222.
