Allina Health hires new graduate RNs in a wide variety of patient care units, such as: medical surgical, cardiac telemetry, vascular, oncology, neuroscience, orthopedics, spine, acute rehab, observation, mental health, stepdown units and float pool. The intensive care unit, operating room, emergency department and mother baby areas hire very few new grads. The 90+ clinics, home care and hospice settings within Allina Health rarely hire new graduate nurses. The majority of new RNs are hired at our Twin Cities Metro hospitals (listed below) but there may also be internships at our community hospitals or other locations.

The work schedule details are determined at the time of a job offer and are dependent on what positions are available at that time, but, as a new nurse in the hospital setting expect that you will likely be working:

  • Night shifts (11:00 PM-7:30 AM) – it may be straight nights or a day/night rotation. There is a night shift differential on top of base pay. The shifts are typically eight hours.
  • 0.8 FTE (which is 64 hours in a 2-week pay period), but it may be slightly more or slightly less than that.
  • Every other weekend.

New graduates (registered nurses with less than one year of RN work experience) are invited to review qualifications and apply online to our RN New Graduate application on our careers page. On the application you will indicate your preferences for location and patient care area, which will also be discussed in greater detail later in the process. By applying, you will be considered for all RN positions within the Allina system that hire new grads. Please note: new graduates are not able to apply to other positions aside from the RN New Graduate application regardless if the job posting indicates willingness to consider new grads. It is recommended that new grad RNs apply up to 4 months prior to graduation (and anytime thereafter, there is no deadline). It is a process and it does take time. We hire new graduates year-round depending on available positions.

RN New Graduate application

After submitting an application, each application is reviewed in further detail. Those moving forward will be contacted directly by our Talent Acquisition Team and scheduled for a phone and/or in-person interview to discuss your application and interests in more detail. It is a competitive process. Feedback is collected and those advancing will receive a verbal job offer from a nurse recruiter at Allina with details of the position. Offers can be (and many times are) received prior to graduation.
