New Ulm Medical Center is a nonprofit hospital and clinic serving the region in and around Brown County located in south central Minnesota. We offer an extensive range of care options with over 30 affiliated physicians and a full complement of visiting specialists.

Road construction alert

Due to road construction, 5th North Street (adjacent to the medical center) from Garden Street to Highland Avenue is closed until October 25. Our 5th North entrance will also be closed during this period. Please use the 8th North entrance to enter and exit our facility. Thank you for your patience during construction.

Hospital front desk

As of Tuesday, September 3, 2019, you may notice some changes at the front desk of the hospital as our student receptionists return to school. We recognize the valuable contributions these exceptional young people have made to our patient and visitor experience over the years, but we have made a decision not to fill these positions. New Ulm Medical Center is committed to continuing to provide a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff. To minimize the impact of this staffing change to the public or employees moving forward, we will be making the following changes:

Monday-Friday:  Hospital front doors will continue to remain open until 8 p.m.

  • Business Services staff will be at the front desk until 5:30 p.m..
  • Security will staff the front desk of the hospital from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to help visitors with directions. When called away, Security will post a sign directing visitors to call the Med/Surg nurses' station.
  • The phone prompt on the general line is being refined to provide more options for callers to self-select their desired extension.
  • Patients on 4th floor will be given a direct extension for friends and family to call.

Saturday-Sunday: Hospital front doors will continue to remain open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Calls will be routed to the Med/Surg nurses' station, with the emergency department registration available as back-up.
  • Student volunteers are being recruited to take four-hour shifts at the hospital front desk to help visitor with directions. Please contact Vonda Dulas if you are interested in one of these volunteer positions.
  • Security will staff the front desk of the hospital for the busiest 1 to 2 hours each day, as able, until a consistent volunteer schedule is solidified.
  • Additional and improved way-finding signage is being created.

We will regularly monitor the impact of these changes and adjust as necessary. Please contact Sue Johnson (ext. 7-5192) with any questions or feedback.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the many departments involved in this discussion, we are confident that New Ulm Medical Center will continue to provide a secure and healing environment with very little noticeable change for staff or visitors.

Protect yourself and loved ones from the flu

The best way to prevent the flu is to get your flu shot. Everyone over six months of age should receive the flu shot. It’s especially important if you live with people who are at high risk for developing flu-related complications. Annual flu shots are available at most Allina Health clinics!
