Two Allina Health experts explain why winter presents a mental health challenge for some people

Two Allina Health experts spoke to the MinnPost about why winter presents mental health challenges for some people. They also shared tips to try to better handle the seasonal changes.

Here’s a look at some of the information they shared in the article:

“One of the biggest contributing factors is the lack of sunlight, the shortness of the days. It has huge impacts on our mood and overall health,” said Sarah Paper, PsyD, an Allina Health psychologist.

Andrew Stiehm, MD, an Allina Health sleep medicine physician, said, “There is this almost innate sense of when there is less light, there is less happiness.”
