A message from the program director

Dear Neurology Residency Applicants,

Welcome to the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Adult Neurology Residency Program. It is my privilege to invite you to learn more about our program as you consider the next step in your medical training. As program director, I am deeply committed to creating a rigorous, supportive, and inspiring educational environment that prepares residents to thrive as neurologists and leaders in neurology.

At Abbott Northwestern, our residency program is designed to provide comprehensive clinical training across the breadth of neurology while emphasizing thoughtful decision‑making, collaboration, and compassionate patient care. Residents benefit from hands‑on experience in a high‑acuity, high‑volume environment, with close mentorship from dedicated faculty who are invested in teaching and professional development.

Medical education is a passion of mine, and I take immense pride in working alongside residents as they grow into confident, capable physicians. Our goal is not only to build clinical expertise, but also to foster curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to learning – essential qualities for a fulfilling career in neurology.

Allina Health Abbott Northwestern Hospital is a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Level 4 Epilepsy Center. We are also home to the Givens Brain Tumor Center, one of only a handful of such specialized offerings in the country, serving patients with exceptionally complex needs. This rich clinical environment means you will gain exposure to a vast array of neurological conditions during your training.

We are building a residency program designed to foster resident success while promoting well‑being and advancing professional growth. If you are seeking a residency that combines clinical excellence, strong mentorship, and a collaborative culture, I encourage you to explore the Abbott Northwestern Adult Neurology Residency Program.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and to support you as you develop into the next generation of neurologists.

Warm regards,

Uma Menon, MD, MBA, FACNS, FAES, FANA, FAAN
