Visiting us

  • Visiting guidelines

We have restricted visiting guidelines to protect all patients, visitors, volunteers and staff.

    Hospitals

    • Children, 5 and under, are asked not to visit the hospital (this includes birth centers and The Mother Baby Center), unless seeking medical care.
      • Compassionate exceptions may be considered based on a patient's critical condition/prognosis. Talk to a nurse.
    • All children, ages 10 and under, must wear a mask while in our hospitals. This includes birth centers and The Mother Baby Center.
      • The Minnesota Department of Health has declared a measles outbreak in Minnesota. Your child needs to wear a mask while in our facility to protect his or her health.
    • Anyone with a cough or sore throat, should wear a mask while at a hospital.
    • Mom baby and birth center visitors will be screened for wellness.
    • Visitors who are sick should not visit hospital patients.

    Clinics

    • All children, ages 10 and under, must wear a mask while in our clinics.
  • Visiting a patient

Visitors can be good medicine for patients, and family members and friends are welcome to visit. Although there are no set visiting hours for most patient areas, patient care is our primary concern at New Ulm Medical Center (check with staff for information on visiting hours and restrictions for the Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Units).

Visiting hours and regulations are up to the discretion of the patient, doctor and nursing staff. If you need additional information, just check with the nurse on duty in the unit.

The following are general guidelines for visitors:

    • Visitors may not smoke in patient rooms or anywhere on the Medical Center campus.
    • Visitors must dress appropriately and must wear shirts and shoes.
    • No more than four visitors are allowed at the bedside at one time.
    • People with colds, sore throats, or any contagious diseases should not visit patients.
    • Visits should be kept short.
    • Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
    • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.
    • Latex balloons are prohibited in the Medical Center.
