[US News & World Report, March 20, 2020] Young people appear to be at greater risk of serious illness from the coronavirus than initially realized in the U.S.

Early reports from China and other countries indicated that older and sicker adults were most at risk for serious complications tied to the virus, which experts believe may have led younger and healthier people to think they had little to personally worry about. But preliminary data out this week shows that among a sample of 508 patients who were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the U.S., fully 38% were between 20 and 54 years old.

"The truth is any human being can get this virus," says Dr. Monte Johnson, vice president of medical affairs at St Francis Regional Medical Center, a part of Allina Health.
