[The Commonwealth Fund, March 31, 2020]   Toby Freier is president of New Ulm Medical Center , a 25-bed critical access hospital 90 miles southwest of Minneapolis and two hours from its nearest tertiary care referral center. Part of Allina Health, a nonprofit system, New Ulm has been preparing for the emergence of COVID-19 cases at the same as time it’s been expanding capacity to provide care to patients with chronic conditions and other acute care needs.

[KARE 11, March 30, 2020]   Surprise parties are nearly impossible to achieve in these times of social distancing, but a Northfield community found a way to pull off an unforgettable send-off on Tuesday, for a beloved neighbor battling brain cancer. Barb Barlau, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in January.  Several Northfield police officers joined a line of cars that ran down neighborhood streets, while neighbors stood in their yards to take part in a special celebration - with plenty of separation - for Barb Barlau.

[KARE 11, March 26, 2020]   Allina Health is assembling face shields by hand to supplement its dwindling supply of manufactured shields that are part the personal protective equipment that helps protect nurses and doctors while treating suspected and diagnosed COVID-19 patients. [Star Tribune, March 26, 2020]   Allina Health team members from across the organization volunteered to assemble much-needed face shields to protect health care workers working directly with COVID-19 patients and in the emergency department. The goal is to assemble 10,000 face shields over a two-day period.
