Allina Health selects Mortenson as General Contractor for new 10-story hospital building on Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus

MINNEAPOLIS (April, 29) - Allina Health is pleased to announce the organization’s selection of Mortenson as the General Contractor to build a new Surgical and Critical Care Pavilion on the Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus in Minneapolis.

The 10-story, approximately 500,000 square foot building will be constructed in the middle of the hospital campus and will replace the hospital’s existing operating rooms and create new care environments for patients, visitors and staff. The new building will be LEED certified in alignment with Allina Health’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Construction is expected to begin in late 2022 or early 2023.

“Allina Health has a long history partnering with Mortenson to build and bring much-needed assets into the communities we serve,” said Lisa Shannon, president and CEO of Allina Health. “Our two organizations are closely aligned in our commitment to the Minneapolis community and we are extremely excited to be partnering with Mortenson on a project of such magnitude. The Surgical and Critical Care Pavilion will profoundly impact how we seamlessly deliver care and also symbolizes our organizational commitment and continued investment in a neighborhood that we have called home for more than 140 years.”

The Surgical and Critical Care Pavilion is part of Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern Revitalization project, a multi-year infrastructure project will help the health care system transform its patient facilities and prepare the hospital to provide care for the next 50 years. The project is part of Allina Health’s Whole Way to Better journey and vision to redefine health care by investing in our communities, addressing big issues in health care and delivering Whole Person Care – mind, body, spirit and connection to community.
