Abbott Northwestern Hospital has been deeply rooted in the South Minneapolis community for over 138 years.

Right now, our communities are hurting from the impacts of the coronavirus as well as the injustices, inequities and safety challenges facing our neighborhood. Our mission to relieve suffering and to provide care is more critical than ever.

As we begin improvements to our hospital, our Whole Way to Better commitment includes continued dedication to our neighbors.

We are committed to investing in our current location.

In 2017, Allina Health signed a 20-year extension of our lease in the Midtown Exchange building, continuing our commitment to the Phillips neighborhood. To meet the changing needs of our community and increase our ability to offer complex care, we will also improve the Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus over the next 10 years.

We will keep our promise to stay within our current campus footprint.

Many years ago, Abbott Northwestern made a covenant with the neighborhood—we will not expand our campus beyond our current boundaries. Abbott Northwestern will keep this promise in our future campus development plans.

We will be a responsible neighbor committed to informing you about our projects.

Our projects are guided by environmental sustainability and equity. 

Campus Revitalization Program Guidelines include:

• Respect the people of the Phillips neighborhood and all others affected by Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Allina Health as a whole.
• Put patient care at the core of all decisions.
• Minimize the environmental impact of hospital operations.
• Create work opportunities for our local community by contracting with Minority & Women Owned Business Enterprises (WMBE).
