A Cardiac MRI is a non-invasive imaging technique used to create detailed pictures of the heart and blood vessels. It helps doctors evaluate the heart’s structure, function, and blood flow. During the procedure, a contrast dye may be injected into a vein to enhance the images and provide more detailed information about the heart's condition. In some cases, medications may also be given to help improve the heart's ability to be seen on the MRI, especially if certain areas are difficult to assess. The test is safe, painless, and typically takes 30-60 minutes to complete.

The number one killer in the United States, cardiovascular disease affects the heart and blood vessels. Our experts can identify, treat and help you manage cardiac conditions.
An echocardiogram is a test that uses sound waves to create a moving picture of the heart.
This type of monitor will record your heart rhythm during your everyday activities. For this test, you will wear a portable EKG machine. You will have the monitor for 24 or 48 hours.
Nuclear cardiology tests can determine if areas of the heart muscle are receiving good or poor blood supply.
If a pacemaker or ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) helps to regulate your heartbeat, we can help you make sure your cardiac device is working properly. Our experts can evaluate your cardiac device and adjust settings so that you benefit the most.
A peripheral vascular exam measures blood pressure and blood flow using sound waves created by a device called a doppler. You will have a test done while you rest and while you exercise on a treadmill. This test helps tell if there are blockages in the leg arteries. This test takes about 30 minutes when looking at leg veins, and 45 minutes or longer when looking at the leg arteries.

Preventive cardiology clinics at Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute (AHMHI) offer comprehensive programs for adults who are at risk for heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases.

Stress echocardiography is a test that uses ultrasound imaging to determine how the heart muscles respond to stress. It is mainly used to diagnose and evaluate coronary artery disease.
Comprehensive care to individuals with vascular health conditions and diseases.

Research and clinical trials

Our research team includes cardiologists, clinical scientists, registered nurses and regulatory specialists. They work together to discover new ways to lessen the burden of cardiovascular disease.

Clinical trials allow patients to take a more active role in their health care, gain access to new drugs, treatments and disease management practices, contribute to medical research.
