Food and liquid restrictions before surgery

  • You may eat up to 12 a.m. (midnight) the day of your surgery.
    • Eat light meals such as oatmeal or toast.
    • Do not eat foods that are heavy or high in fat such as meat or fried foods.
  • Do not use chewing tobacco six hours before your surgery.
  • You may have only water up to two hours before your surgery.

Follow any instructions your surgeon gives you. Your surgery may be delayed or rescheduled if you do not follow your instructions.
