Your first appointment
New patients should bring the following to their first appointment:

Healing process

The wound clinic care team will assess your situation, create a customized treatment plan, and monitor your healing progress. They also will coordinate referrals to additional specialists, if necessary.

A plan of care will be created. Patients and family members will be instructed on how to care for the wound and assist in obtaining wound care supplies.

Referrals to home health care agencies and other health care providers may be arranged.

Your wound will be monitored until wound healing is complete.

Types of wounds treated

Types of wounds treated include:

  • arterial and venous wounds
  • traumatic wounds
  • pressure ulcers
  • slow healing wounds
  • non-healing surgical wounds, burns, grafts and wounds related to diabetes

Wound clinic treatments

Treatments offered through the wound clinic include:

  • advanced wound care dressings and products
  • debridement
  • compression therapy
  • negative pressure wound therapy
  • total contact casting

Factors that impair healing

The wound care team will identify factors that may impair wound healing. These may include:

  • wound infection
  • poor circulation
  • poor nutrition
  • smoking
  • medical issues such as diabetes or weight control
  • leg swelling
  • poor fitting footwear
  • mobility/immobility issues
