New research shows that sleeping in bright conditions can increase your risk of heart disease by 56%.
Marc Newell, MD, a cardiologist with
Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute, explains that light may prevent you from reaching deep sleep. When that happens, your heart rate and blood pressure don’t get the chance to drop, and your body misses the reset it needs to function well.
