“The more I’m wanting to be detailed, the more the tremor wiggles,” Cindy said.
It turns simple things like pouring coffee, jotting a note or unlocking a door into stressful moments.
“Not that it’s life-threatening,” Cindy said. “It’s just annoying.”
Cindy, a retired pathologist, tried medication but didn’t feel relief. Last fall, she saw a TV report about how ultrasound treatment is being used to ease tremors. It gave her hope.
Then, an email from Allina Health changed her life.
“We are starting focused ultrasound,” Cindy said about the news in the email. “At that point, I’m jumping up and down and saying, ‘I think I just won the lottery.’”
Cindy has since undergone focused ultrasound treatment at Allina Health Neuroscience, Spine and Pain Institute, the only facility in the Twin Cities region where the procedure is offered.
Relief from her tremor was immediate. She left Allina Health within an hour of the procedure with a steadier hand and hope in her heart.
The purchase of the focused ultrasound equipment was made possible by the generosity of donors to the Allina Health Foundation.
