Allina Health expands Cancer Connection app to support lung cancer patients

MINNEAPOLIS (April 22, 2026) — Allina Health Cancer Institute has expanded its Cancer Connection mobile app beyond breast cancer to now include support for patients undergoing treatment for lung cancer.

Cancer Connection is designed to strengthen communication between patients and their care teams, helping patients better manage symptoms, prepare for appointments and engage more confidently in their care. The expansion builds on the app’s original launch in 2024 and reflects Allina Health’s continued investment in digital tools that support patient-centered cancer care.

“Cancer treatment can feel overwhelming, particularly for patients managing complex symptoms and frequent appointments,” said Badrinath Konety, MD, chief academic officer and president of Allina Health Cancer Institute. “By expanding Cancer Connection to lung cancer, we’re giving more patients practical tools that help them stay informed and connected to their care team.”

App features include:

  • Symptom, drainage and spirometry (lung function) tracking
  • A curated learning library with expert-reviewed educational content
  • A customizable to-do list
  • A notepad to help patients prepare questions and notes for appointments

The app also offers benefits for providers by supporting more informed clinical conversations and enhancing patient engagement between visits.

“This app supports the way we care for lung cancer patients by strengthening communication and continuity across the care team,” said Charlene Fares, MD, a thoracic oncologist with Allina Health Cancer Institute. “Cancer Connection demonstrates how Allina Health Cancer Institute is implementing solutions that enhance clinical workflows and the overall patient experience.”

Patients can receive an order to download Cancer Connection on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
