Allina Health Cancer Institute launches Mammo on the Move to expand access to breast cancer screening

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 18, 2025) — Allina Health Cancer Institute is proud to announce the launch of Mammo on the Move, a new state-of-the-art mobile mammography unit designed to bring life-saving breast cancer screening directly to communities. Beginning January 2026, the mobile unit will visit select Allina Health clinic locations and surrounding areas, expanding access to preventive care for patients who may face barriers to screening.

“Patients should feel assured that stepping into Mammo on the Move is like walking into a trusted Allina Health Cancer Institute location. This option offers the same advanced 2-D and 3-D mammography technology, private changing spaces and expert care patients expect from us,” said Amanda Price, MD, Allina Health Cancer Institute surgical oncologist.

Technologists trained at Piper Breast Center perform the exams, and Piper Breast Center radiologists interpret the images, ensuring the highest quality standards.

This initiative was made possible through federal funding secured by Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and the generous support of Allina Health Foundation donors, whose commitment helps Allina Health deliver care where it’s needed most.

“Early detection saves lives, and Mammo on the Move is an important step toward improving access and reducing barriers to preventive breast care,” said Badrinath Konety, MD, Allina Health Cancer Institute President. “By bringing advanced screening technology directly to communities, we’re making it easier for patients to prioritize their health."

Patients can book appointments like any other screening: in-person at their provider’s office, through their Allina Health account or by calling 612-775-2345.

Mammo on the Move will make regular stops at 16 Allina Health clinics that currently do not offer mammography, helping improve access and convenience for thousands of patients.

Allina Health will host a formal ribbon cutting event in the spring.
