Allina Health statement on the increase in violence against AAPI community

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (March 19, 2021) — Allina Health condemns the recent attacks in Atlanta on March 16 that resulted in the deaths of eight people, including six women of Asian descent.  We stand in solidarity with the families who lost loved ones, the communities that are grieving and everyone who works to eliminate racialized and gendered violence. We denounce anti-Asian hate and violence, along with all other forms of racism and recognize that there has been an increase in violence against the Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander community since the start of COVID. The killings in Atlanta on Tuesday evening are the latest tragedy to strike this community in the last year.

Allina Health is on the Whole Way to Better journey that celebrates our differences so that we can be unified in providing exceptional care to every person we are privileged to serve. We believe that we must be vigilant in protecting our community members and neighbors from all forms of hatred, using our voices to create a more equitable and inclusive world begins with each of us.

As a health care system, our commitment to our employees, our patients and communities we serve is that we will use our voice as an employer, care provider, community partner and purchaser of goods and services to work towards a more just and equitable society where differences are celebrated and all people feel welcome, safe and respected.
