Have high cholesterol? Oatmeal contains a special type of fiber called beta-glucan, which can help to reduce cholesterol levels.


1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1 1/4 cups fat-free milk
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup finely shredded carrots
2 tablespoons raisins
2 teaspoons honey
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts


  1. Combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl. Stir. Cover with a paper plate or paper towel and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Stir. Then cook for 30-second intervals, stirring between, until oatmeal reaches desired consistency.
  2. Divide oatmeal into 2 bowls and top each with 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts.
  3. Allow to cool slightly and serve warm.
