Robotic joint replacement solution

Mako Total Knee RobotAllina Health Orthopedics at Buffalo Hospital is introducing a robotic device specifically designed for joint replacement procedures called Stryker Mako SmartRobotics Assisted-Arm. Mako uses 3D CT-based software so your surgeon can know more about a patient’s anatomy and create a personalized joint replacement surgical plan. This 3D model is used to preplan and complement the expertise of our orthopedic surgeons by adding precision when performing the joint replacement procedure. This allows for a less-invasive surgery, resulting in less pain and a quicker recovery for patients. Our Stryker Mako SmartRobotics Assisted-Arm has now performed over 300 total knee replacements.

A doctor using the Mako Total Knee Robot"With Mako SmartRobotics™, I know more about my patients than ever before, and I’m able to more preciously make cuts. For some patients, this can mean less soft tissue damage; for others, greater bone preservation,” said Dr. Dana Harms, Orthopedic Surgeon at Buffalo Hospital. “Mako’s 3D CT allows me to create a personalized plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy before entering the operating room. During surgery, I can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute that plan. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line to perform total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements.”
