Tick season reminder: Simple steps can reduce your risk

[WCCO-TV News, May 12, 2026] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says visits to emergency departments for tick bites are higher than usual across the country. In addition to the irritation caused by their bites, ticks can spread disease. Lyme disease, alpha-gal syndrome and Rocky Mountain spotted fever are among the tick-borne illnesses that can cause serious health problems. Symptoms may include fever, joint pain or swelling.

Allina Health family physician Seth Vogel, MD, appeared on WCCO-TV to remind people of the importance of dressing to reduce the risk of tick bites and performing routine tick checks. If you have concerns about a possible tick bite or tick-borne illness, On Demand Visits are available through Allina Health.
