Tips to prevent spring sports injuries

[KARE 11 News, April 01, 2026] This is the time of year when the risk of injury can be high for people resuming outdoor activities they may have paused during the winter. Robyn Knutson Bueling, MD, an orthopedic sports medicine physician with Allina Health, recently shared tips on KARE 11 News to help reduce the risk of sprains, strains and overuse injuries.

Dr. Knutson Bueling reminded viewers to pay attention to their environment. Even when it warms up, there can still be slippery spots in shaded areas when we have big swings from winterlike weather to spring temperatures.

She also recommends gradually returning to warmweather activities and listening to your body. If you overdo it and feel pain, see a doctor if the pain gets worse instead of better over time, or if you notice bruising or a body part looks misshapen.
