Tick season is here: How to protect yourself and spot a bite

[Fox 9 News, April 29, 2026] Tick season is underway, and it’s important to understand the risks ticks pose and how to protect yourself. Ticks latch onto whatever they brush against, so anyone spending time in wooded or grassy areas should wear long sleeves and long pants, and tuck pant legs into socks to help prevent ticks from reaching the skin.

After spending time in tick-friendly areas, be sure to check your entire body for ticks. If you find one, take a photo and remove it using fine-tipped tweezers. According to Seth Vogel, MD, a family medicine physician with Allina Health, photos can help clinicians identify the type of tick and evaluate the potential health impact of a bite.
