Multiple sclerosis: Risk factors, symptoms and treatment

Research shows that people living in Minnesota have a higher risk of multiple sclerosis (MS). The farther you live from the equator, the greater the risk, though researchers have not determined a specific reason why. What is known is that multiple sclerosis is a disorder in which the body mistakenly attacks itself, specifically the brain and spinal cord. It affects women at a higher rate than men and symptoms typically appear between the ages of 20 and 40. Alejandra Duque, MD, a neuroimmunologist with Allina Health Brain and Spine Institute, explained MS symptoms and treatments on WCCO-TV. Watch the interview below.
