Family medicine and obstetrics doctor hits four-generation milestone

[Allina Health Newsroom, June 12, 2025] Dr. Carolyn Borow loves helping expectant mothers as much as when she started delivering babies at Allina Health United Hospital in 1983.

“You hear so much about people in their jobs being burned out, and I define myself as being “burned in,” because I love my work so much,” Dr. Borow said.

When she’s not helping with a birth in St. Paul, Dr. Borow practices family medicine with obstetrics.

“I see babies and children of all ages,” she said. “I see women, men and many people in the same family, which makes it really fun.”

Dr. Borow’s connection to one local family has reached a fourth generation with the delivery of a healthy baby in May. Previously, Dr. Borow had delivered the baby’s mother and grandmother.

“When I started delivering the babies of people who I had delivered when they were babies, it seemed so special to me that I decided to give myself the title of “Honorary Grandmother,” Dr. Borow said with a smile.

Now, she’s added “Honorary Great-grandmother” to her titles.

“I just feel like I'm part of many families, and that's just a great gift that's been given to me through this job,” Dr. Borow said.
