Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication that can cause issues such as liver or kidney failure, seizures or even death for the mother and child. Indy Lane, MD, MBA, FACOG, the vice-president of Women’s Health at Allina Health and leader of The Mother Baby Center, says preeclampsia usually develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
- High blood pressure or protein in the urine are classics signs of the complication.
- Dr. Lane says more subtle symptoms could hinder early detection.
Clinicians at Minnesota Perinatal Physicians and The Mother Baby Center, a partnership between Allina Health and Children's Minnesota, are ready to pinpoint those symptoms and help expectant mothers manage the effects of preeclampsia.
