Mother shares story of rare birth complication

[KMSP Fox 9, February 17, 2025] Annie Sterle and her son Henry are alive and well, in part, because of the expert care they received at The Mother Baby Center, a partnership between Allina Health and Children’s Minnesota.

Annie suffered a rare life-threatening complication called amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) when she went into labor in March of 2020. In short, she had an allergic-like reaction when amniotic fluid entered her blood stream. She experienced cardiac arrest and had to rely on a life-support machine to support her heart and lungs. Her baby Henry had to be resuscitated.

Due to spending weeks in a coma, Annie did not get to consciously meet her baby for 24 days. She shared her story in a documentary called 24 Hours Without You. FOX 9 News interviewed her about it all.
