The clinic held a program to mark its 40th anniversary. Among the speakers was Patrick Scully, a patient for 30+ years. He says he appreciates the compassionate, expert care he’s received as a gay man living with HIV.
"One of the reasons I choose to come here is I don't have to worry about spending energy fixing things that are really not my problem to fix, but my problem to live with," said Scully discussing the challenges that many in the LGBTQ+ community face as they navigate societal obstacles and unique health care needs.
Lead physician of the Uptown Clinic Dominic Decker, MD, said it was a much-needed service. "When it started, people living with HIV and AIDS were being turned away from medical care in the early eighties. Our clinic rose to meet the needs of these individuals."
