Never too early to start planning for pregnancy
[WCCO-TV News, March 06, 2024]
If you know you want to become a parent, it’s never too early to start planning for pregnancy, according to Rachel Pilliod, MD, an OB/GYN with Minnesota Perinatal Physicians and The Mother Baby Center. The Mother Baby Center is a partnership between Allina Health and Children’s Minnesota.
WCCO-TV interviewed Dr. Pilliod about this topic. She shared these tips:
- Talk to your care team about your personal and family history. You want to think about things like diabetes and hypertension, which complicate a pregnancy.
- If you are considering adding vitamins, add folic acid. 400 mcg helps to reduce the risk of birth defects during pregnancy.
Dr. Pilliod also shared some tips for people who are already pregnant or planning for a second or third pregnancy in the video below.
