Is the mild winter leading to early onset allergies?

[WCCO-TV News, February 04, 2024] Minnesota and Western Wisconsin are dealing with the mildest meteorological winter on record. It has all but ruined most of our outdoor winter plans and confused our lawns and trees. The unseasonably warm air is also causing some people to question if they're experiencing early onset allergies. WCCO-TV reached out to Pramod Kelkar, MD, an Allina Health allergist, to discuss this topic.

“This year is definitely very unusual. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get spring early, and we start seeing severe allergies right in the beginning of spring,” said Dr. Kelkar. He also urged people to remember we’re still in the cold and flu season. Symptoms could be from viruses. He said the biggest distinction is fever, which is not related to allergies.
