Allina Health celebrates new adaptive and inclusive playground in Coon Rapids

[WCCO-TV, October 24, 2023] Allina Health and the City of Coon Rapids celebrated the new adaptive and inclusive playground at Mercy Park. The Allina Health Foundation donated funds to the project, and therapists from Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (CKRI) contributed to the design. Upgrades include adaptive equipment, a rubber surface and easy access to the playground area.

Because of the playground’s close proximity to Mercy Hospital, CKRI therapists often use the outdoor space to work with young patients receiving speech, physical and occupational therapies. It also serves as a perfect place for families to take children while visiting loved ones at the hospital. The newly renovated outdoor space not only provides options for children of all abilities, but also makes the playground more accessible to their caretakers who may have mobility issues.
