"I knew the healing power of art": Stroke victim creates in order to express herself, heal

[WCCO-TV News, May 17, 2023] A stroke can change lives in an instant. Some people recover fully, but others have long-term or lifelong disabilities. Stroke survivors often struggle to do the things they previously loved. One Falcon Heights woman turned to art to better express herself after developing a brain disorder following her stroke.

"It's transparent. It's beautiful. It shows the light," said Jeannie Bridgeman, a stroke survivor from Falcon Heights. Bridgeman is describing her art. What she may not realize is those same words describe her story.

Bridgeman is one of dozens of artists with disabilities from around the world displaying their work in Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute's annual Art of Possibilities art show.
