Meet 10-month-old Harriet Kendrick, a survivor of rare heart condition

[KTTC-TV, February 22, 2023]

Ten-month-old Harriet Kendrick and her parents have faced the unthinkable with bravery even before she was born. During her 20-week ultrasound, her parents received the news that Harriet had pericardial teratoma – a rare tumor that can impair heart function. The Kendricks were referred to Midwest Fetal Care Center in the Twin Cities, a collaboration between Allina Health and Children’s Minnesota.

Here they met with Dr. Joseph Lillegard, head of open fetal surgery, to attempt a surgery to debulk the tumor and safely deliver Harriet while still connected to mom and the placenta at 32 weeks along.

Hear Harriet’s story of courage and survival thanks to this life-saving procedure and the importance of never skipping routine prenatal medical care.
