Lifting up survivors of sex trafficking is delicate work

[KARE 11 News, January 31, 2023] January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a time to shine the light on a problem that persists year-round. KARE 11 looked at an Allina Health program that helps educate care providers in how to spot victims and offer support.

It's the kind of compassionate model that Allina Health is trying to provide.

"We want to help them; we want them to come back," Amy Schmitz said, of the patients.

Schmitz is a sexual assault nurse examiner and a trainer for the entire Allina Health system. She doesn't just train forensic nurses, however. She said the training happens for every patient-facing provider.
