Athletes compete in Courage Kenny Classic wheelchair basketball tournament

[KSTP, November 06, 2022] Allina Health's Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute hosted its 38th Annual Courage Kenny Classic Wheelchair Basketball Tournament which drew 16 teams, including some of the top teams in the country.

Wheelchair basketball is played by athletes with a wide variety of disabilities and injuries affecting their lower extremity. Athletes play in a sport specific wheelchair, but do not have to use a wheelchair every day. Courage Kenny is home to five wheelchair basketball teams ranging in ages from 5 to 50+.

Athletes and employees with Allina Health were featured in several news reports. Ryan Trench, senior specialist with the Courage Kenny Sports & Rec program, spoke with KSTP-TV and FOX 9 NewsWCCO-TV also covered the tournament and spoke with Romaus Mesa, senior specialist with the Courage Kenny Sports & Rec program.
