Rheumatologist joins care team at Allina Health New Ulm Medical Center

NEW ULM, Minn. (Nov.6, 2025) — A new rheumatologist has joined the care team at Allina Health New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC). Nneka Chukwu, MD, is the first rheumatologist for NUMC and one of only a few in the region. She is accepting patients living with conditions affecting their joints, muscles and connective tissues such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and lupus.

“My practice philosophy is rooted in compassion, equity, empathy and empowerment,” said Dr. Chukwu. “I want people to get the care they need when they need it. I have seen firsthand how timely access to health services has changed and redefined the trajectory of many lives.”

While listening to patients to create care plans that help them maintain the highest quality of life, she also picks up a few life lessons. “One of the most important things I’ve learned from patients is that health is a precious gift. Nourish, cherish and enjoy it,” said Dr. Chukwu.

In her free time, Dr. Chukwu enjoys traveling, books and board games. She is accepting new patients through referrals from providers who do not necessarily need to be from NUMC.
