New donation to Faribault Medical Center provides comfort for visitors of youngest patients

FARIBAULT, Minn. (July 08, 2025) — The Allina Health Faribault Medical Centers Auxiliary just donated a new rocking chair to the nursery.

The nursery is furnished with bassinets, cribs and Panda warmers to care for the babies, but until recently, we did not have a rocking chair. Nurses typically take newborns to their mothers’ rooms for visits, but the babies who need additional support such as oxygen or monitoring stay in the nursery. Their parents and loved ones needed a comfortable seat to visit with them.

“Visits from their loved ones, who hold the babies and love on them, is important to bonding. We are glad to have a comfortable rocking chair for them to sit with their baby,” said Sue Shaft, patient care manager, Birth Center at Faribault Medical Center.

The nearly $1,000 rocking chair is part of the more than $100,000 in gifts the Auxiliary has donated to Faribault Medical Center over the past four years. The Auxiliary supports the patients and employees at Faribault Medical Center by volunteering and raising money to purchase non-budgeted, health-related items for the hospital.
