Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute hosts 2025 USA Wheelchair Softball International World Series at Mall of America®

Games will begin in mid-August

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (Apr. 1, 2025) — Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute is proud to announce it will host the 2025 USA Wheelchair Softball International World Series at Mall of America® Fields in Bloomington, Minnesota August 14-16. The Minnesota Twins Community Fund will add to the excitement by serving as the presenting sponsor of the event.

The Courage Kenny Rolling Twins are the defending champions of this international competition. More than 300 athletes and their supporters, from as far away as Japan, will come to the Twin Cities area to play and watch more than 70 games. This event provides an opportunity for people, young and old, with mobility impairments, to play a competitive version of the beloved sport of baseball.

“This is an amazing opportunity to showcase adaptive sports and their importance in our community as well as the world,” Michael Kane, Manager of Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Sports and Recreation. “Sports provide the opportunity to move our bodies and build lasting social connections, which are both key to our overall health.”

Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute will transform the North Lot of Mall of America into a wheelchair softball sports complex, complete with five softball diamonds. Wheelchair softball is played on hard surfaces with a 16-inch ball, allowing players to keep control of their wheelchair while catching the ball without a glove.

“We are proud to be hosting the 2025 USA Wheelchair Softball International World Series and showcasing the talent of these exceptional athletes,” said Natasha Freimark, Vice President, Partnership Sales at Mall of America. “We are grateful for our community partners who will help us bring to life the incredible softball complex and activate more than a hundred volunteers to help make this event a success. Mall of America marks the perfect location for this tournament, embracing our history as the former site of the renowned Metropolitan Stadium.”

“The Minnesota Twins and Twins Community Fund firmly believe that baseball and softball are for everyone, and that when we inspire a love of play for all, we all win,” said Kristin Rortvedt, Executive Director of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund. “We are thrilled to welcome the 2025 USA Wheelchair Softball International World Series to our home community, and we are incredibly grateful to our partners for their tireless work to remove barriers and elevate adaptive sports.”

The Minnesota Twins have been long-time supporters of adaptive sports at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. In 2012, Courage Kenny partnered with the City of Brooklyn Park and the Minnesota Twins to develop the only dedicated competitive wheelchair softball field in the five-state area.

Last year’s World Series was held in Omaha, Neb. where the Courage Kenny Rolling Twins clinched the championship. The Courage Kenny Rolling Twins is a dominant force in wheelchair softball, winning an impressive 22 National Championships. Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute previously hosted the Wheelchair Softball World Series in 2014 at Todd Anderson Field in Brooklyn Park.
