Allina Health Abbott Northwestern and United hospitals awarded on Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025 List

MINNEAPOLIS (March 4, 2025) — Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern and United hospitals are on Newsweek’s list of the World’s Best Hospitals 2025.

The award list was announced on February 26th, 2025, and can be viewed on Newsweek’s website.

The World’s Best Hospitals 2025 ranking lists the best hospitals in 30 countries: USA, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, India, Spain, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Israel, and Singapore. The countries were selected based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living/life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals, and data availability.

Newsweek and Statista awarded the best hospitals based on four data sources:

  • Recommendations from Medical Experts: Online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals, and hospital managers in 30 countries.
  • Results from Patient Surveys: Survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization.
  • Hospital Quality Metrics: Medical indicators e.g., data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety, and waiting times.
  • Statista PROMs Implementation Survey: Optional online survey on the implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.

Based on the above four pillars and their respective weights, a final source was calculated for each hospital.

“We are pleased that Abbott Northwestern Hospital has made the World’s Best Hospitals list for six straight years,” said David Joos, president of Abbott Northwestern Hospital. “This recognition is a testament to our compassionate care teams that deliver expert care every single day.”

“The care teams throughout Allina Health deliver exceptional patient care while always finding ways to innovate to better serve our communities. Congrats to our teams on this well-deserved honor,” said Jill Ostrem, president of United Hospital.
