Allina Health announces strategic relationship to enhance the health care experience for patients and providers

As part of the new agreement, Allina Health will gain access to advanced technology and increased capabilities to support the health care system’s nonprofit mission of delivering high-quality care to patients and communities.

(MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 1, 2024) – Today Allina Health announced a strategic relationship with Optum to enhance health care for patients and providers in communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Through this relationship, Allina Health will leverage Optum’s innovative technology, resources and capabilities to build upon Allina Health’s existing Information Services and Revenue Cycle Management operations, ensuring the health care system’s resources are prioritized toward direct care of the community and continued excellence in its administrative support to caregivers and patients.

Allina Health employees in Information Services and Revenue Cycle Management will transition to being employees of Optum, while maintaining their respective roles in supporting Allina Health’s patients and providers. Together, Allina Health and Optum will continue to deliver exceptional health care experiences through the adoption of new tools and technologies.

“Health care is changing rapidly and the technological needs to support care delivery are increasingly complex," said David Ingham, DO, vice president and chief information officer for Allina Health.  “As we look to the future, we need to collaborate on solutions that will support and accelerate our care delivery expertise by bringing size and scale to innovation and technology. This new relationship with Optum brings the best of both organizations to the table in support of providers, patients and communities. We are grateful to be retaining the knowledge and talent of our team members who will still stay strongly connected to Allina Health.”

The relationship will allow Allina Health to:

  • Continue advancing information systems solutions to improve the patient and provider experience.
  • Streamline the billing experience for patients and providers by implementing industry-leading technologies and processes across revenue cycle operations.
  • Adopt innovative technologies at an accelerated pace.

Approximately 2,000 Allina Health employees in Information Systems and Revenue Cycle Management will transition their employment to Optum effective May 5. Allina Health is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for these team members and to ensure seamless operations throughout the transition.
