New Ulm Medical Center welcomes new podiatrist

NEW ULM, Minn. (July 5, 2023) — New Ulm Medical Center Clinic is proud to welcome a new podiatrist, Andrew Highum, DPM, to the clinic staff. Highum is a graduate of the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, Chicago. He completed his residency at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago.

“I enjoy providing comprehensive foot and ankle care to patients of all age groups from pediatric to geriatrics,” Highum says. “I enjoy taking the time to truly get to know and connect with my patients and colleagues. Being able to provide quality medical and surgical care to patients you consider ‘extended family members’ truly makes my profession special.”

Dr. Highum and his wife Sonja have been married since 1993; she’s a surgical nurse. They have three grown children.

As a podiatrist, Highum says he enjoys taking a problem that is negatively affecting a patient in a variety of ways and helping, either clinically or surgically, to correct the problem to improve their quality of life. He says patients are incredibly appreciative when they get back to activities they couldn’t perform pain-free anymore. This really creates a special long-term relationship.

“Diagnosing complex problems of the foot and ankle and being able to develop a treatment plan to correct that problem is one of the enjoyable challenges of being a podiatrist,” Highum says. “Not everything is black and white, which can be a challenge. This also keeps you motivated to keep learning and improving yourself.”

Dr. Highum is now seeing patients in the New Ulm Medical Center Clinic. To make an appointment, call  507-217-5011.
