Allina Health hospitals ranked among highest in state, says U.S. News & World Report

Abbott Northwestern Hospital remains best in the Twin Cities and second in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 1, 2023) — Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and United hospitals were ranked first, second (tie) and fifth (tie), respectively, in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area in the new U.S. News & World Report 2023-24 Best Hospitals rankings released today. Abbott Northwestern was ranked first in the Twin Cities and tied for second in all of Minnesota for the eleventh consecutive year.

In addition to its Twin Cities and state rankings, Abbott Northwestern Hospital received national rankings in the specialty areas of neurology & neurosurgery, and pulmonology & lung surgery. Abbott Northwestern Hospital also received “high performing” ratings in the following areas: aortic valve surgery, back surgery, colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery and stroke.

Mercy Hospital received high performing grades in the specialty areas of pulmonology & lung surgery and ranked high performing in the areas of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery and stroke.  

United Hospital received high performing grades in the following medical procedure and conditions: colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery and stroke. 

Buffalo Hospital was ranked high performing in pneumonia for the third consecutive year.

New this year, River Falls Area Hospital earned a high performing ranking in pneumonia.
