Allina Health Cancer Institute receives accreditation for excellence in delivering high-quality patient care in radiation oncology

MINNEAPOLIS (June 16, 2023) — Allina Health Cancer Institute (AHCI) is pleased to announce it has been accredited by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) through APEx - Accreditation Program for Excellence®. The APEx accreditation program, developed by ASTRO, validates a radiation oncology facility’s excellence in delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

“We are proud to receive this accreditation and to be recognized by ASTRO which is known for its rigorous review to ensure those who are accredited are committed to the highest standards of safety and quality in the practice of radiation oncology,” said Badri Konety, MD, AHCI President. “This program also allows us to learn from the information gathered by APEx to continuously elevate our metric-driven program to benefit our patients, all those who support them and our staff.”

To receive accreditation, AHCI’s policies and procedures were evaluated using objective, verifiable expectations for performance in radiation oncology. The program identifies facilities that adhere to patient-centered care by promoting effective communication, coordination of treatment and strong patient engagement.

“We appreciate ASTRO’s values which recognize the importance of engaging patients and families as partners in care,” said Mike Koroscik, AHCI Vice President. “This aligns with Allina Health’s Whole Person Care approach and commitment to treat every patient with a unique plan designed specifically for them as we help them navigate diagnosis through treatment and beyond.”
