Allina Health announces new Mental Health and Addiction Services programs at United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus

HASTINGS, Minn. (May 19, 2023) — The United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus is now offering Allina Health Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Day Treatment to provide an intensive outpatient mental health program with the goal of helping adults and adolescents (ages 13-18) stay out of the hospital and get support they need to heal in their own homes. Addiction services provides care to assist adults as they address substance use disorders with group and individual support, while participating in everyday life.

Allina Health’s community needs assessment showed mental health and addiction services being in the top three needs identified by the communities we serve. United Hospital — Hastings Regina Campus is honored to provide new services and provide additional resources to address the growing need for increased mental health and addiction services in our state.

“The opening of outpatient Mental Health and Addiction Services, including partial hospitalization, day treatment and outpatient addiction programs to the Hastings community will provide a valuable resource to both adolescents and adults in the east metro,” said Helen Strike, president, United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus. “This program can provide important support as a patient steps down from inpatient hospital services to help them discharge or leave the hospital with professional support.”

“Possibly more important than this, is having outpatient resources in the community to help prevent the need for inpatient care by providing services to individuals challenged by mental health and addiction conditions,” Strike said. “Adding specialty outpatient programs to our Hastings community helps fulfill one of Allina Health’s goals, to serve patients in the communities near where they live. In 2022, we aligned east metro services by uniting United and Regina hospitals and these new Mental Health and Addiction Services are an example of how we are able to create more access to navigate care and resources.”

PHP and Day Treatment programs average two to four weeks in length and typically meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The PHP programs offer group therapy programming directed by an advanced psychiatric provider. Family involvement is encouraged. Addiction services provides an intensive outpatient program for adults with group therapy four days per week from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. as well as individual counseling sessions. Length of programming varies based on individuals’ needs.

“We partner with community schools and individual mental health providers for continuity of care,” said Sara Lantz, manager, outpatient mental health intermediate services. “Our program focuses on gaining coping skills, improving conflict resolution, learning emotional regulation skills, gaining self-awareness, learning to manage stressors, and learning skills to remain safe.”

“In addiction services, we collaborate with our patients to include individuals and referral partners important to them so we can focus on Whole Person Care,” said Carrie Kappel, manager, addiction services.
