MINNEAPOLIS (Friday, June 17, 2022) — Allina Health officially dedicated the Holmes Heart Hospital on the Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Attendees also celebrated longtime donor, Gary Holmes, who graciously donated $15 million to the Allina Health Foundation by unveiling a portrait that now greets patients and staff in the lobby of the hospital.
“Gary has continued to show his generosity and shared commitment to our mission for decades. As a not-for-profit health care system, gifts from our donors, like Gary, are vital to our mission to provide exceptional care, prevent illness, restore health and comfort all who entrust us with their care,” said Lisa Shannon, CEO of Allina Health. “We are inspired by and grateful for this generous gift which will impact cardiology research, staff training and contribute to the revitalization of the Abbott Northwestern campus as a whole.”
Holmes has a long history of community involvement, a passion for improving health care and deep-rooted connections to Allina Health. In 2001, he was part of a group selected by the Minnesota Attorney General to oversee the restructuring of Allina Hospitals and Clinics and actively manage the health system during that time. Holmes, the founding president and CEO of CSM Corporation, also served on the Board of Trustees of Abbott Northwestern Hospital. There is another hospital that bears Holmes' name. He has donated money to help build a hospital in Uganda in partnership with the Friends of East Africa Foundation which also works to train physicians.
“This is the hospital where you want to be,” Holmes said at the unveiling. “When donating to an organization, I want to find where I can have the greatest impact. I strongly believe that our health care system plays an integral part in our personal health and the overall wellness of our communities. My family is deeply grateful for the care we have received at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and I’m honored to be able to provide this gift to Allina Health and humbled by this dedication.”
